Attaché Accounts and Attaché Payroll

Before you upgrade

To check which version of AlexConnect you are currently using, in Attaché choose Tools | Company | AlexConnect | Delivery Queue Manager and then click About.

  • If your current version of AlexConnect is earlier than version 4.00.000 (June 2009), you should uninstall it and restart before installing the upgrade. Remember to do this at each computer/workstation where AlexConnect is installed.
  • To do this, first locate which computers/workstations have AlexConnect installed: go to Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features). See if AlexConnect for Attaché 7 is shown in the list of installed programs. If so, highlight AlexConnect and then click the Remove button. Choose Yes when asked if you want to completely remove the program. When the uninstall is finished, choose Yes again when asked if you want to restart your computer. You can now install the new version of AlexConnect on the computer/workstation.

  • If your current version of AlexConnect is later than version 4.00.000 (June 2009), simply follow the steps below to upgrade. You don't need to uninstall your current version of AlexConnect.

Upgrading from the Attaché menu

If you have upgraded to the latest version of Attaché Accounts and Attaché Payroll you should install AlexConnect from the Attaché menu (Tools | Company | AlexConnect | Install / Upgrade AlexConnect). The latest version of Attaché Accounts and Attaché Payroll, and instructions on how to install AlexConnect from the Attaché menu are available in the Download Centre on the Attaché Members website.

If your version of Attaché Accounts and Attaché Payroll is not the latest version and you need to upgrade your AlexConnect software, follow the instructions below. (To check your version of Attaché Accounts and Attaché Payroll, choose Help | About Attaché. To find out the latest version, visit the Attaché Members website.)

  1. Choose to save the file to disk/hard drive.
  2. Save the file to your download directory (eg. C:\Download).
    In a multi-user environment,
    save the file to a network drive which can be accessed from all workstations which
    run Attaché.

  1. Ensure no one is using Attaché.
  2. As this installation requires you to restart your computer, ensure that you have closed all programs.
  3. In Windows Explorer, locate the target directory.
  4. Double-click AlexConnect.exe.
  5. Follow the installation instructions, ensuring you select your Attaché program directory as the destination directory.

    Repeat steps 3 to 5 at each workstation from which you wish to send documents.

    (Note that you can create documents on more than one workstation and have a single workstation send them. See the Attaché Alex User Guide for more details.)

    If you are upgrading, it is essential that you upgrade all workstations that have an older version of AlexConnect installed.

AlexConnect
Test Tool

Attaché Accounts and Attaché Payroll includes a special utility designed to get you up and running quickly with the Attaché Alex document delivery service. The utility tests whether your system is ready for AlexConnect (the software component of Attaché Alex) by sending a test fax to you. If your system isn’t ready for Alex, the utility can help you to diagnose the reason why and assist you to send an email to Alex Support. You should not use this tool if you are already using Alex except where a change in your system has caused Alex to stop working.
