Important note: before you upgrade

Before upgrading to the latest version of AlexConnect, you must uninstall the current version and restart. To do so, at each computer/workstation where AlexConnect is installed, from the Windows Start menu choose Settings | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs. In the list of installed programs, highlight AlexConnect for Attaché 7 and then click the Remove button. Choose Yes when asked if you want to completely remove the program. After the uninstall process is finished, choose Yes when asked if you want to restart your computer. You can now install the new version of AlexConnect.

Upgrading from the Attaché 7 menu

If you have upgraded to the latest version of Attaché 7, you should install AlexConnect from the Attaché 7 menu (Tools | Company | AlexConnect | Install AlexConnect). The latest version of Attaché 7 and instructions on how to install AlexConnect from the Attaché 7 menu are available in the Download Centre on the CBP Members website.

If your version of Attaché 7 is not the latest version and you need to upgrade your AlexConnect software, follow the instructions below. (To check your version of Attaché 7, in Attaché 7 choose Help | About Attaché 7. To find out the latest version of Attaché 7, visit the CBP Members website.)

  1. Choose to save the file to disk/hard drive.
  2. Save the file to your download directory (eg. C:\Download).
    In a multi-user environment,
    save the file to a network drive which can be accessed from all workstations which
    run Attaché 7.

  1. Ensure no one is using Attaché 7.
  2. As this installation requires you to restart your computer, ensure that you have closed all programs.
  3. In Windows Explorer, locate the target directory.
  4. Double-click AlexConnect.exe.
  5. Follow the installation instructions, ensuring you select your Attaché 7 program directory as the destination directory.

    Repeat steps 3 to 5 at each workstation from which you wish to send documents.

    (Note, you can create documents on more than one workstation and have a single workstation send them. See the Attaché Alex User Guide for more details.)

    If you are upgrading, it is essential that you upgrade all workstations that have an older version of AlexConnect installed.

AlexConnect
Test Tool

Attaché 7 includes a special utility designed to get you up and running quickly with the Attaché Alex document delivery service. The utility tests whether your system is ready for AlexConnect (the software component of Attaché Alex) by sending a test fax to you. If your system isn’t ready for Alex, the utility can help you to diagnose the reason why and assist you to send an email to Alex Support. You should not use this tool if you are already using Alex except where a change in your system has caused Alex to stop working.
